Toledo SOUP is coconuts for community improvement. That’s why we’re hosting a summer luau event—the first themed dinner in Toledo SOUP history. We’ll provide the leis, community punch and tropical-inspired soups, while you listen to three new presenters as they share their ideas on how to make Toledo an even better place to live, work, and play. Don’t forget to wear your Hawaiian shirts and Bermuda shorts!
The event is scheduled for Sunday, June 22nd from 5-8 p.m. at the Madison Avenue Collective, located at 1600 Madison Ave. 2nd Floor in Toledo. An attendance fee/donation of $5 for adults and $1 for children 12 and under gives you a vote for your favorite presentation, and a complimentary meal of soup, salad and bread. This summer, we’re very excited to feature Andrew Ruiz from the Toledo Museum of Art as one of our celebrity chefs.
Presenters were selected by a guest panel of Toledo enthusiasts including, Bob Meeker, Peter Ujvagi, Lisa Lawrence, Kimberly Cutcher, and Paula Hicks-Hudson. The top three proposals are:
Someone I know Has Cancer (Jean Schoen)– Seeking funding to publish an educational book on cancer for children to better understand the disease and its symptoms.
FDCA Late Night Basketball (Sonya Williams)– Requesting funds for an evening basketball program for Toledo youth, ages 16-28 years old.
East Side Art Studio (Viviana Esquivel)– Hoping to fund a free art program for children in East Toledo.
We will also hear from a couple of our most recent Toledo SOUP recipients providing updates on their community-minded projects.
