Toledo SOUP: Halloween Helping – October 26th

Call for Proposals

Proposals are now being accepted for the fall edition of Toledo SOUP.  Proposals should focus on community-minded projects, including social causes, nonprofits, start-up businesses, and one-off art projects or urban farming projects. Proposals should be brief but descriptive in how they define both the financial needs to complete the project and the community benefit of your project being funded.

The submission deadline for this round of Toledo SOUP is Wednesday, October 1 at 11:59pm. All proposals received after that deadline will be automatically included in the next quarterly soup event (winter 2015). All submitted proposals received before the deadline will be reviewed by a panel of guest judges. These judges will select a Top 3 from the pool who will present at the SOUP meal event on October 26th. All who submit will be notified whether their proposal has been accepted or not by mid-October.

Save The Date!

The next Toledo SOUP meal event will take place on Sunday, October 26th from 4:30-7:30pm. This is the Sunday following the Zombie Bar Crawl on Adams Street. The event will be Halloween themed and will feature seasonally appropriate soups from guest chefs, a costume contest, a raffle, and an amazing opportunity to help change your community! Toledo SOUP Seeks Ideas For Summer Event

Toledo SOUP is now accepting complete ideas for its Summer Luau event to be held Sunday, June 22, 2014 in the Mad Ave Collective, located at 1600 Madison Avenue in Uptown Toledo. Anyone in the Toledo community, as well as its surrounding suburbs, is eligible to submit a proposal.

If you have an idea for a community-minded project, or your business, non-profit, club, or organization requires monetary assistance to realize a goal, Toledo SOUP can help provide funding with microgrants up to $1000. Past presenters have discussed everything from art, music and theater workshops to after school programs, hunger initiatives and more.
All ideas that meet Toledo SOUP’s requirements will be sent to a panel of community judges for further review. The top five ideas, as agreed upon by our judges, will have the opportunity to present at the even on June 22. Grant recipients are selected through a community voting process, and funding is received at the end of the event.
Toledo SOUP’s most recent winners include Derek Bunch of New Life Urban Agriculture and Elizabeth Harris of Glass City Goat Girls. Previous Toledo SOUP winners were Maxwell Austin of Glass City Pedicabs, Genevieve Abalos of Art Around Town and Audrey Johnson of Art Around Town.
Prospective presenters have until Saturday, May 31 to submit ideas online. Toledo SOUP will accept former submissions. Please view our guidelines on re-applying and presenting. Toledo SOUP- Winter 2014 Event Details

What: Toledo SOUP- Winter Event!

When: Sunday, March 9th in the Flying Pig Cafe at Toledo School for the Arts, located at 333 14th Street #4 in Uptown Toledo

Time: 5-8 p.m.

Details: You’re invited to Toledo SOUP’s Winter event celebration of crowd-funded community projects. Save the date for Sunday, March 9th when you’ll be hearing from five incredible presenters eligible for the evening’s micro-grant, plus two Honorable Mention selections (not included in the voting process).

Additionally, Maxwell Austin of Glass City Pedicabs and past Toledo SOUP grant recipient is hosting a bake sale during the SOUP event. Baked goods are needed. Please contact glasscitypedicabs@gmail.com if you are interested in donating your delectable treats. Proceeds will benefit the Winter SOUP winner.

This round of submitted proposals ranged from social service needs to art projects to urban agriculture programs, representing a diverse array of inspiring and innovative ideas and projects taking place throughout the community.

As chosen from our panel of esteemed judges, the March 9th event’s top-five presentations include:

• East Toledo Phase I/Public Art (Amber LeFever) – artist-designed and painted public fixtures (streetside trashcans and planters) to beautify Main Street on the East Side.

•Fertile Grounds Radio (Tera Johnson) – broadcast equipment for a local Internet blog radio broadcast focusing on the Toledo community.

•GlassCity Goat Girls Return (Elizabeth Harris) – an agribusiness looking to establish an urban goat farm.

•New Life Urban Agriculture (Derek Bunch) – local production of high-quality organic mushrooms.

•Sibshops (Wendy Smenner) – Workshops for kids 9-15 years who have a brother or sister with special needs.

What happens at SOUP? First, arrive at the event and donate $5 at the door ($1 for children ages 12 and under). Then, learn about the above-mentioned presenters and hear more on the cool initiatives taking place in T-Town. Next, enjoy a complimentary meal of soup, salad and bread, while you discuss with fellow community members which project deserves the micro-grant (all the donation money collected at the door). Finally, vote for your favorite project. By the end of the evening, one presenter will walk away with at least $500 to fund their idea to improve Toledo.

The fun doesn’t end after voting! Please join us for a post-SOUP after-party fundraiser at the Attic on Adams, immediately following the event. Here, you can meet the presenters, enjoy a speciality SOUP-themed cocktail, and help raise funds for the next summer SOUP event.

Details: Toledo SOUP is back for its third course of crowd-funded community projects. Please join us on Sunday, September 8th, from 5-9 p.m. at Toledo School for the Arts, located at 333 14th Street #4 in Uptown Toledo.

You’ll hear from five new presenters, including Genevieve Abalos (The Art of Hope), Ben Cohen (The Macelwane Park Basketball Court Project), Aimee Reid (Children’s Theatre Workshop), Rachel Richardson (Art Corner Toledo) and Jamie Sampson (ADJ-ective New Music). So how does SOUP work? First you come to the event and donate $5 at the door ($1 for children ages 12 and under). Then eat a simple meal of soup, salad and bread while you listen to ideas for new community projects. Finally, vote for your favorite project. The top vote-getter will be awarded all the funds collected at the door.

Deadline Extended For 3rd Toledo SOUP

If you have been procrastinating on your amazing community idea, you’re in luck. The Toledo SOUP committee has extended the deadline for proposals for the 3rd Course of Toledo SOUP to Monday, August 5th at 5 p.m.

We are looking for thoughtful but brief explanations about your projects. Proposals can be submitted through the Toledo SOUP website. Just click on the Submit a Proposal tab to get started.

The Scoop on the 3rd Soup

We’re pleased to announce that the third rendition of Toledo SOUP will take place Sunday, September 8th at Toledo School for the Arts from 5-9 p.m. Toledo SOUP is now accepting submissions from anyone interested in presenting their community project or business idea at the September event.

Toledo SOUP is a crowd-funding opportunity for community members to contribute or enact small-dollar projects to positively impact the Toledo area community. Past Toledo SOUP events have benefited Art Around Town—creative and educational art activities for area youth; and Glass City Pedicabs—Toledo’s first 100% green transportation company. If your community-minded idea could benefit from a $500-$1000 micro grant, we encourage you to submit a proposal.
